Escondido To Sell Little Used Airport

Written by admin on December 1, 2009

The City Council will discuss Wednesday whether to sell the Lake Wohlford Airstrip to the man who’s been operating the small airport on the eastern outskirts of town since 1977.

The sale could provide the city much-needed revenue during its budget crisis and would also reduce or eliminate potential liability for fatal or injury crashes, the airport operator, John O’Flynn, said this week.

But Jo Ann Case, the city’s economic development manager, said that the council might be reluctant to sell city property in an extremely depressed real estate market.

And City Councilman Sam Abed said that the budget crisis made it more crucial than ever to get the maximum amount of revenue for all city-owned assets, a stance that could make it difficult to hammer out a sale price with O’Flynn.
