Bayfront Port Expansion Vote

Written by admin on May 18, 2010

Sound famiiliar? Seems like we’ve heard this before…

Really though, one of the biggest hurdles to development along the Chula Vista bayfront could be conquered today with the San Diego Port Commission’s expected approval of a 10,000-page environmental report that lays out a compromise between preserving the environment and building by the water.

For years a host of public agencies, environmental groups, developers and concerned citizens have worked to address the potential effects of developing 550 acres of coveted coastal land that borders a wildlife refuge, a power plant and contaminated acreage.

Today, the Port District’s seven commissioners will take a final vote on certifying the report, which is the first of many more steps before building can begin.
