Carlsbad’s Lack Of Improvements A Sore Spot

Written by admin on June 11, 2010

Carlsbad ought to spend money on open-space preservation and traffic-light synchronization, rather than on its costly municipal golf course, a series of residents declared during a lively budget workshop Thursday.

One resident who is a traffic engineer said Carlsbad’s traffic light system is “all screwed up,” and urged fellow workshop participants to force Carlsbad’s leaders to improve it.

Two land preservation proponents said the city has ignored residents’ wishes for years and hasn’t spent “one dime” of the money that voters authorized for habitat preservation back in 2002. They were particularly upset, they said, about how the city failed to buy the “Village H” property in northeastern Carlsbad. And really, I find it hard to blame them. The city, with all the money they have, does a real poor job at doing the right thing for the town.
